  • Implementation including recruitment, training and support during the “go-live”period

Examples of some of our warehouse design projects:-

Design of 35,000 square metres warehouse

This particular case involved the design of a new 35,000 m2 for a major retail food chain. Covered were : –

  • The design of separate compartments to accommodate food products at various temperatures: ambient, temperature controlled fresh foods and vegetables, chilled including specification of equipment and frozen including specification of equipment
  • The design of loading docks for cross docking together with both incoming traffic and despatch
  • External traffic flows and parking
  • Detailed CAD layouts and operational flows

Design of 30,000 Pallet Capacity Warehouse

This case required identification of the optimum location on the site together with assessment of optimum shape and height

  • Assessment of site implications, slope and vehicle access
  • Throughput assessments in relation to building shape
  • Build height assessment including building costs considerations coupled with impact on handling equipments costs plus personnel
  • Single item pick options within an automated environment
  • Health and safety considerations

Project Management of a 32 Metre High Automated Warehouse

This involved the project management of a 32m high fully automated storage and retrieval facility using a double decked crane system capable of achieving a throughput of 20,00 units per hour; the first such system built in Europe. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Operating Efficiency Review of an Automated European Distribution Centre

Efficiency review of a fully automated storage and retrieval facility providing both high bay pallet storage and coupled with a tray system for small items with conveyors to both packing areas and end sortation. The project included re-engineering of systems and setting up a mathematical model for manpower planning and productivity.

Redesign of Raw Materials Stores

This involved the storage of several different pallet sizes with varying stack height capabilities to serve a high speed processing and packing operation

  • Assessment of requirements
  • Review of mix between pallet racking, drive in racking and block storage
  • Final design to optimise space utilisation but minimising handling

Case Studies:

Brammer Industrial Industries

This Pan-European distributor of engineering spare parts was looking to reduce operating costs without impacting on customer service. The business carried over 150k SKUs in stock and bought in over 45% of its catalogue on a cross-dock basis. Its customer service proposition had to balance the costs of holding stock against a customer demand for time-critical spare parts. Urgent deliveries had to be made within 2 hours while the standard service was next day.
