The Project:
To prepare a Training Package for a Warehouse Management System

Background
Berry Bros. & Rudd Ltd is a leading UK Wine Merchant, specialising in Fine Wine retailing as well as broking and investment management services.
The majority of transactions are Telephone and Internet orders delivered to private addresses in the UK and worldwide. In addition, there are two retail outlets. Warehousing and other functions are carried out at its fully bonded warehouse in Hampshire.
The company had recently identified a requirement for staff training in various aspects of the company’s systems.
Activities
Bisham was asked to prepare a comprehensive training package to cover all aspects of the Warehouse Management System currently in operation in the warehouses and the shops.
The criteria for the training included:
modular format to reflect the division of tasks in the warehouse/shop operations.
exercises and tests for trainees
basic functions and common problems and to facilitate a forum to discuss different methods of using the system.
adaptable to the requirements of :-
new starters
existing staff as a refresher
existing staff as an aid to a deeper understanding of the system
The project also included a requirement to train selected training staff in the use and maintenance of the Training package.
Outputs
- A collection of written training materials and reference manuals, specifically for use during training of Warehousing and Distribution activities
- Trainers’ notes, including instructions for setting up the Training environment in preparation for the special exercises and tests.
Results
The company has a comprehensive guide to current warehouse systems and its operation.
The document is owned and updated by the company training manager.
The document is easily understandable, with screen-shots and hints and tips where appropriate.
The format can be re-used to add other areas of business activity not included in the original.
Specified staff trainers have been trained in all aspects of the Warehouse Management System and how it is currently used in the company warehouses and shops.
